On November 7, 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a Rs 80068 crore mega financial package for Jammu & Kashmir, with a focus on humanitarian relief, crisis management, social infrastructure, development projects, and economic infrastructure.
At the time of its announcement, the PMDP comprised 63 projects for erstwhile state of J&K. Following the reorganisation of J&K, 53 projects remained applicable to the Union Territory.
While the PMDP’s total financial outlay for J&K was Rs 58484 crore, the total sanctioned cost of these projects stood at Rs 68905 crore. The sanctioned cost of certain projects-primarily those under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) executed on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis-has exceeded the allocations initially provided in the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) as approved in 2015—(KNO)
